This is why I want to take some kind of martial art again. Not everywhere is dangerous, but danger can be anywhere. Great interview. Renzo is so charismatic, great storyteller.

  3. I’m not sure how ‘alpha’ it is to invite a mugging just so you can beat the guys up and tweet about it.

I understand handling a situation once it has begun.

Behaving more like a victim in order to encourage a mugging is stupid. He could have avoided the situation altogether, but he chose to act like a naive moron and pretend to be drunk and distracted, just so he could show off his skills and feel like a big man on twitter.

A big, intimidating guy that knows how to handle himself could have easily stopped this before it escalated.

He preferred to give a play-by-play on twitter, ‘pretend to wobble’ the drive around looking for the guy to teach him a lesson.

Whispering ‘that’s is what death feels like’?

I might understand if we didn’t hear about it. This guy was just showing off for fucking twitter. Really Alpha.

Those other guys could have, oh, I dunno, maybe, not try to mug him?

What if Renzo had just been old and in the wrong part of town instead of taking a stumbling step? Would that have also been wrongly inviting a mugging? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-412399/70-year-old-ex-SAS-soldier-dares-tackle-muggers-wins.html

My friends and I mug people in Cape Town, South Africa. We use guns. No matter how “Alpha” you are, a gun to your temple empties your pockets really quickly!

  5. This might have been alpha in the stone age. Now it’s just dumb. Also, he could have easily killed one of them himself.

  6. what evidence is there to suggest it was a mugging. they asked for a cigarette and then he reacted like a psycho. have fun getting prosecuted for assault and kidnapping (holding someone against their will).

  7. This makes me proud to be a man.

  8. There was an extended period when I lived a lot of different places for several months at a time, three times just over a year. In my experience the local Alphas will seek you out and put you to a test. It’s no surprise, it IS their area of operation and the local women will be intrigued about the new comer where ever and whoever you are. Forewarned is fore armed, and I prefer to tease it out until the place and circumstances suit me, and even then what is really needed is behavior, not necessarily bloodshed, although if that be the case be enthusiastic. That said, I try to remember that I can usually do more productive tricks with my mind than with my body and with a great deal less wear and tear.

I have to wonder about some of the comments, though. “inviting a mugging’? Really. The two guys are the ones who crossed the line of departure, it didn’t have to be, and once you start something you don’t necessarily get to say how it ends. Alternately the idea that they just wanted a cigarette and there’s no evidence…You need to get out more. Herr du Plessis, your ethics notwithstanding, I would most earnestly hope you reconsider your tactics. You are about 2.5 seconds away from something very untoward happening, SA is wonderful place to find people who know exactly what I mean.

English please…but if you are suggesting people would something with a gun to their head held by some guys on tik, you would be a fool. We make grown alpha men cry.

      • Guessing from your tone, I have to doubt you’re that serious and I am not interested in internet bickering. But you did say please, so FWIW. Whatever else you do, do not physically touch your target/victim with your weapon. Ever. Your weapon is an implement and nothing more it is not magic and you invalidate one of it’s greatest powers with physical proximity, much less actual contact. Whatever make model or caliber, your weapon is an utter and absolute whore, responding gleefully and blindly only to the current hand to possess it with less than no memory or faith in regard to ownership.

Also, give some serious thought to what you are undertaking. It is a wager and you have only seen one side of it. Fair enough, but you are extrapolating results that may not always be there; try to keep in mind that there is an enormous difference between what has happened and what has to happen. So far what has happened has been positive for you at least and you now think that it is always so. that is not because there is anything wrong with you, well, other than being a stick up man. It is only human nature, it is why you can make money at a card table or trading. That said, the venue you have chosen offers far worse than penury when events cease to go your way.

Am I in fact suggesting that a man would do anything other than completely surrender and weep like a little girl with a gun to their head? Do brace yourself du Plessis, but, YES, and emphatically so. Worse yet, I and 3 friends have done, one most assuredly more emphatically than I and more than once preferring to live in the depths of the 3rd world. As for being a fool, while I think I have offered up generous evidence of that in my time, this action was absolutely not any part of it. Not to put too fine a point on it, but if you are convinced you always know exactly what your opponent is thinking and how they will react you may want to reconsider your notion of foolery.

2.5 seconds? Well, if this is your chosen occupation I can’t do everything for you. You will need to either surmise or research that on your own, it is hardly a state secret. Equally with my South Africa reference; there is Alpha and then there is Alpha. Good Luck.

    Love Renzo

I could listen to him read the dictionary and if be enthralled

    The man is a phenom

  10. Awesome.

Some of the comments above are ridiculous. Inviting a mugging and he acted like a psycho? If you’ve ever actually met Renzo, you would know that he’s a pretty nice guy who doesn’t go out trying to fight random people. Whatever occurred he used his judgement and did what was necessary. Maybe if some of commenters above joined a BJJ gym they would know that we are a pretty chill and laid back bunch.
