Best Protein Bar

A while back I tried formulating my own protein bar from my home kitchen. It didn’t work out. Food science is best left to the professionals.

I wanted to formulate my own bars because the other bars on the market suffered from the same problems.

Protein bars are loaded with poor quality protein (gelatin), sugar, and the rest of the ingredients list looks like a recipe for Frankenstein’s candy bar.

A friend and male fitness model turned me on to a new brand of bars. These are legit. Look at the ingredients:

Protein blend (whey protein isolate, milk protein isolate), isomalto-oligosaccharides* (100% natural prebiotic fiber), almonds, water, apples, natural flavors, sea salt, cinnamon, lo han guo, sucralose.

Milk protein is a slower absorbing protein. It takes longer for the body digest, and thus leaves you feeling full longer.

Isomaltooligosaccharide sounds kind of freaky, but is actually really good for you for two reasons.

When you eat bread, your body breaks the break down into glucose molecules. The glucose is then used for energy or is stored as fat. Bread is no different from sugar.

Isomaltooligosaccharides aren’t broken down into glucose. There is no blood sugar spike associated with IMOs and IMOs are not stored as fat. Instead, something interesting happens.

Yogurt is good for you because of the beneficial bacteria – the probiotics. When you eat yogurt, you are literally putting bacterial into your body.

When you eat isomaltooligosaccharide, you are feeding those bacteria, increasing the population of probiotics in your gastrointestinal tract. Whatever the bacteria doesn’t break down passes through your colon, leading to epic shits.

Each of these protein bars has 17 grams of isomaltooligosaccharides. That’s a lot of food for your probiotics and the undigested fiber will give you remarkable shits. Check them out.

Why protein bars instead of something like Beef Steak Jerky? Protein bar is 170 calories with 20g of Protein and a 2oz Beef Steak is 140 calories with 26g protein. I have to be missing something if everyone is using protein bars instead of beef jerky but what is it?

Beef jerky, low-fat string cheese, pack a sandwich, eat a whole chicken, drink a glass of milk, keep a carton of milk in your work fridge etc.

      You guys crack me up.

Who said anything about just eating protein bars all day?

That was an excellent write-up, very informative and helpful. One thing though: What does it taste like?

More appropriately, how does it taste?

Is milk protein the same thing as casein protein?

I was afraid to click on that link. Thought it would lead to a picture of shit

Yeah, I was expecting some epic logs. Maybe even a floater or two.

    • hahahaha exactly my thought and ‘fear’ (I’ve changed diapers in the past..), which didn’t restrain me from clicking though..

I usually avoid protein bars, since they’re about as healthy as a Snickers (which I don’t eat either) and three times the cost. But these actually look pretty good, I might have to order some when I restock on protein powder.

  7. just got some, only problem is that they’re expensive as fuck. ~$2 per bar.

How much is a big mac?

How much is a “extra value meal”?

Most people spend money on food that destroys their body.

I would rather spend money on “expensive” foods that build mine.
