“Should I Break Up With My Girlfriend?”

What man hasn’t asked that question? Courtesy of BBC News, you have have your answer.

Using UN data on population size in 177 countries, together with estimates of global weight from the WHO and mean height from national health examination surveys the team were able to calculate average BMI figures for each country.

Using the values that you input into the calculator, it works out your BMI as well as where you are in relation to the rest of the population in your country and the world for your gender and age.

If your girlfriend’s BMI reading doesn’t say, “You have a lower BMI than 90% of females aged 15-29 in your country,” then you are dating a fattie.

If you don’t have the heart to break up with her, send her a link to the calculator as a hint/warning.

P.S. Don’t give me any bullshit about how BMI is ineffective because muscle weighs more than fat. Unless your girlfriend has veins in her arms, she’s not lean enough for that excuse to apply.

My BMI came back at 57 (I rounded up for 5lb increment) which resulted in, “You have a higher BMI than 100% of males aged [my age range] in your country.”

Now, I’m by no means in great shape, but I’m not a couch potato by any means. How is it possible that my BMI is higher than 100% of males in my age group in my country. That makes no sense. Did I miss something?

    • If your BMI is 57, you’re truely a fatass. 30 is the threshold for obesity. Most likely you input your weight in pounds in the website’s field for kilograms.

Phew. That’s what I did, thank you. BMI is now listed as 26, and I don’t consider myself lean. Not that fat, but not lean for sure.

    • Dude, even for my height (5 feet 10 inches), to even have a bmi of 57, you need to to be 390 pounds. There is no humanly possible way that at least a third to half of that could be anything other than fat. And if it was a third to a half of that being fat, that would be between 130 to 195 pounds of body fat. Way to much…

You missed the comment I already made above that took into account ylam’s earlier post suggesting I had entered my weight in kilograms (which I accidentally did). My correct BMI is 26. I knew I wasn’t that fat!

  2. Apparently I have a BMI of 21, which means I am under weight. The calculator says I have a BMI most like someone from Afghanistan.

BMI is bullshit. Getting glances and compliments from girls on your biceps is truth.
      Gotta go to the gym.

That is a good link. BMI actually under reports obesity compared to body fat measurements. Unless you hit the gym pretty hard.

That really depends on the country. In Japan, almost nobody is a fattie. A 110 pound 5’2″ girl with 20 BMI is pretty typical/average in Japan.

    • A lot of Asians are fatter than they look. They have small frames and can appear thin when clothed even though their body fat percentage is well above what it should be.

One of the valid criticisms of BMI is that it doesn’t consider race. Blacks have higher muscle mass, asians less, and it’s a big enough effect to matter.

Damn. My BMI is 28 as a 31 year old male in the US. I lift weights so I expected it to say I was overweight or obese. But what I did not expect is that this overweight BMI says that I have a lower BMI than 57% of males aged 30-44 in your country. We really are becoming fat asses here in the US.

waist circumference vs. height is a better measure than BMI…..

    • I thought waist to hip ratio was the effective one. waist-to-hip captures muscularity to some extent because the hip measurement goes over the glutes.

Haha, I always knew we were fat, but this puts it in clear relief:

I put in the thickest pornstars I could think of, Gianna Michaels and Alexis Texas, using measurements from Wikipedia. And they came out at 90% and 92%, respectively – as in they were both in the top 10% among women their age in thinness. And I love thick girls – it’s just that the thickest girls should not be among the thinnest women. We’re so fat that thick girls and thin girls end up in the same bracket! Irony of ironies.

Non-athletic women with a BMI over 20 are chubby at best.

  8. Ha. According to the BBC, my BMI (21) is most like somebody from North Korea where there is a famine going on. The US and South Korea stopped giving them food because they wouldn’t apologize for sinking a ship a couple of years ago. And also because they’re government are kind of dicks.

    Fools.

The BMI calculator is for women and men built like women.

Real men pick heavy shit up and put it back down. This results in a lean and/or bulked figure over time. Thus BMI measurements are not really an accurate measurement for the shredded male.

But this post isn’t about you, it’s about the bitches.

According to this calculator, my current girlfriend has a BMI of 20 and is most similiar to a female from DR Congo.

    Her Specs:

    Age: 26
    Weight: 115
    Height: 5’4″
Ethnicity: Brazilian currently living in the USA

    My Specs:

    Age: 26
    Weight: 195
    Height: 6’2″
    Muscle Tone: Leeeeeaaaan

    Good post Danger.

  11. Thank you P90X.
    185 cm > 72.5 kg = 21.2 BMI

    Just keep pushing play.

But i don’t use BMI to figure out who i want to hit on, i go by the length and tone of the legs, and the pleasing shape of hips.

If i see rolls, it’s not on my radar. They are as invisible to me as most men are to women.

  14. Damn, my BMI most like someone from Cote d’Ivoire. But I did like this quote: “If everyone in the world had the same BMI as you, it would remove 25,436,471 tonnes fromthe total weight of the world’s population.” I assume those are metric tons (1 metric ton equals roughly 2200lbs). Do the math and you’ll see that is a lot of f’ing body mass.
